Breastfeeding Is Not Really Heroic 1

Wilde

Posting public breastfeeding pics to social media has become all the rage. Its an odd issue to take a stand on since it is legal and encouraged in every state of the union, being opposed solely by obese puritans who nobody listens to even when they have megaphones.

Most Americans have zero issue with it, but would prefer it to not be advertised since its an inherently intimate thing. You could do it while seated behind home plate during Game 7 of the World Series, but the prevailing response would probably be summed up as ‘Why?’

That’s why posting pictures to Instagram seems counter productive. Apart from the look-at-me factor, a self congratulatory pat on the back, and a ton of “You Go Girl” comments, what purpose does it serve exactly? If anything its just going to irritate people who would prefer women be more discreet. And why wouldn’t you be more discreet? If you’re in a mall why not pick a bench in the corner over the lunch rush line at Chipotle? It seems more comfortable for everyone involved. In that vein, why upload photos to Instagram?

Posting topless photos alone might be seen as a desperate ploy for attention, but if you throw a baby in the mix, you’re fine.

Personally I stand up for women and their right to do it, but that does not mean I am impressed. It just seems like shooting fish in a barrel in terms of soliciting positive compliments. Being critical would see you crucified. Also as I stated there is really no opposition to it, so if you want to get my Like for accomplishing something you’d better be in the Saudi Arabian embassy and not on vacation in the Alps.

It’s normal to breastfeed. What’s the big deal if celebrities do it? I’m embarrassed for them.
