How to Enhance Your Life Through Inefficient Living

A lot of people are searching for meaning and validity in their lives. Maybe you’re like me, someone who has literally owned crowds of several thousand people with their perfected stage act, or you’re just a chick who got knocked up and sits around all fat watching Dr. Phil – regardless of the circumstances, do you find yourself asking “So where do I go from here? I feel like I’ve seen it all.”

Well, let me tell you, it is indeed the simple things in life that one should take the most pleasure from. I think there are two schools of thought on this. First, you have your Suze Orman types who encourage you to be diligent and methodical in the way you live your life. These people don’t realize they’ll all be dead soon.

If everyone was obsessed with efficiency this world would suck. There would never even be a spire on top of a building and we’d all wear the same pair of Carhartts. We’d live in Sim City and routinely walk around with a sense of robotic purpose, blindly saying things like “I must procreate” while eating oatmeal and seaweed. In this world, pizza would not exist. I think its called North Korea.

I prefer to go the opposite way. I take pleasure in every little endeavor I undertake. And not in a pretentious hipster way, because I’ve noticed that people are so depraved at this point that any asshole with a beard who builds furniture can bang whatever idiot model he feels like. That’s not what I’m talking about. Anyone can build bureaus, its not very exceptional – its actually just what people used to do.

I’m talking about playing the game of life with a certain flair. Remember when Michael Jordan had the breakaway layup back in the day and he did a really sweet wraparound windmill dunk? It would have been more efficient to just shoot a layup. Technically he ‘wasted’ some energy with that dunk that could have been used later in the game.

But Jordan knew how to play the game. And so do I. So here are a few examples of ways you can enhance your life through taking pride in your everyday routine. These are just simple examples that you can draw inspiration from:

1) When you wash dishes, try doing it left-handed and behind your back. It will take a little bit longer, but you’ll really be challenging yourself.

2) Instead of just putting on socks every morning, get a bunch of unmatching ones and put them in a paper bag. Then get a bunch of ping pong balls and draw sock pictures on them and hold yourself a littleĀ sock lottery.

3) Before you call the bank to check on that wire transfer, make a point of calling five people in your phone that you haven’t talked to in a while and tell them why you hate them. It will make the wire transfer seem perspectively unimportant.

I have more examples, but time is short. Use your imagination.
