I had no idea that Jugallos, the the proudly menacing symbol of rustbelt urban and cultural decay, are officially considered a gang by the FBI. I checked out the FBI’s website, and apparently 1.4 million people in the U.S. are in 32,000 known gangs identified by the FBI. If you divide it up, that’s about 42 people per gang – although many gangs such as the Almighty Latin Kings Nation have well over 20,000 members, and they estimate that there are around 100,000 Jugallo gang members. I’m bad at math, but this would really seem to throw off the mean number of members per gang, to the point that many of those 32,000 gangs would contain only about 1 or 2 people, which isn’t a real gang.

The FBI is incapable of distinguishing a criminal from a cornball?

Why is the FBI so willing to dignify people who might just happen to be losers as official gang members? I think there are a few reasons. It seems it would allow them to arrest more people under the auspices of committing a crime which otherwise wouldn’t be a crime, since being a gang member in the official definition includes criminal activity, hence they have just designated hundreds of thousands of new criminals for themselves to be concerned with. Also it looks cooler statistically and in headlines if they are arresting ‘gang members’ rather than just random petty criminals named Lance. Certainly their plan is working, as arrests of gang members have nearly doubled since 2001 alone. This ties in well with the agenda of the Prison Industrial Complex, as the federal government has allowed crimes committed by gang members to be punished with lengthier prison sentences than non gang members.

What really wraps this up with a little bow is that the FBI identifies a disproportionate number of prison gangs already waiting for people to join once you are sentenced and sent into a prison system that, from what I understand from movies, pretty much forces you to join a gang once you get there if you don’t have one already. This provides federal and state governments with a nice stream of revenue in the form of dumb losers who are by this point fully invested into a life of repeat offending.

This allows the government to steal more of your tax dollars and give them to prison contractors, who have installed various local, state, and federal representatives to appropriate money to them. The Prison Guards Union lobbies for increased arrest quotas to try and get a little of that money back into the hands of the public, but everyone else loses out. There’s a reason they build these private prisons in podunk towns where citizens are more concerned with getting suspiciously riled up over gay sex than reading election pamphlets.

So, how many of the FBI’s estimated one million Juggalos are actually gang members? I don’t know. I don’t even know how magnets work. From my personal experience, your typical Insane Clown Posse fan is pretty normal, probably does badly in school, and is either a pothead or dabbles in meth. The ones I’ve met aren’t dangerous, they’re into horrorcore and murder-centric music the same way that young people or adults with poor taste have always been into Kiss, Alice Cooper, Slipknot, Korn, Mobb Deep, Eminem, Ice Cube, Tupac, and pro wrestling. Many Juggalos, including the founders, ICP, are involved in charitable work.

The FBI estimates that ten percent of Jugallos are gang affiliated. Yet their listing of Jugallos as a gang now allows the profiling of the other 90 percent, which the FBI admits are innocent civilians. Businesses have responded. Hot Topic has banned ICP records for their gang affiliation, and a Juggalette was recently kicked out of a Wal Mart because of her appearance.

These goobers are getting picked up by their moms.

This all serves to lead Jugallos, along with an increasing number of other civilians, to be vulnerable towards police profiling and harassment, which will lead to more people in prison, which will lead to the FBI waving their stat sheets around, which will lead to more money for certain corporations.
