Football Analysis

As I’ve previously written, I think that it is extremely beyond coincidence that nearly every quarterback in the NFL is white, and the league is mostly black. I can’t think of a similarly skewed job anywhere else in America, with the possible exception of NFL Coach.

I have long suspected that the people at lower levels responsible for cultivating quarterbacks are kind of dumb, and often pick people based on how cool the guy’s name sounds. Joe Montana? Uh, yeah, get in there! Warren Moon! Yes!

Below is a list of every starting quarterback in the NFL. The common thread I’ve seen is that their names either sound really cool, or are exceptionally white sounding.

Another interesting theme is that many of these guys have a first name as their last name (i.e. Brady) – and that the black guys have names that do not sound black if you read them on paper without having seen the guy already – and all of the black quarterbacks have last names as their first name, and those names sound really white.

Carson Palmer – Just sounds white.

Matt Ryan – Two first names.

Joe Flacco – Not much happening here, but I’ve never met a guy named Flacco.

Thad Lewis – Two first names.

Cam Newton – Two exceptionally white sounding first names.

Jay Cutler – Meh.

Andy Dalton – Two first names.

Jason Campbell – Not really two first names, but an exceptionally common name.

Kyle Orton – See above.

Peyton Manning – Definitely didn’t attend Grambling. Also his father was a quarterback during a time when black people weren’t allowed to play, in the deep South.

Matthew Stafford – White.

Aaron Rodgers – Two first names. Although it has an on the end. This is really throwing a monkey wrench into my poorly thought out theory.

Andrew Luck – His name sounds cool. It has the word luck in it.

Chase Daniel – Two first names.

Tom Brady – Two first names.

Drew Brees – His name phonetically has the word breeze in it.

Terelle Pryor – How did this happen?

Russell Wilson – Black guy with two white first names.

Matt Cassel – Castle? I think I’ve made my point here.

I’m bored with this. I think it is obvious that quarterbacks are given opportunities based on the marketability of their names.

Steve Young shared the same name as the greatest prophet of his Mormon cult. There are exceptions to every rule, but if you were to do a scientific study of the names of quarterbacks versus other positions, the results would be worth looking at.
